Hip Hop Culture for Grown-Ups

“I’m going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife love you guys miss you guys take care Facebook people…”
Those were the words of Derek Medina’s FB post, a Floridian, who murdered his wife, Jennifer Alfonso, yesterday afternoon. This status update was a precursor to the photo of the lifeless woman, whose face was covered in blood, in the couple’s kitchen.
The confrontation started yesterday morning, when the couple engaged in a verbal argument, which quickly ensued upon a physical and deadly altercation.
According to the police report, Medina claims, his wife threatened to leave him. During the dispute, he grabbed a gun and threatened his wife. She returned the threat by grabbing a knife. More words were exchanged and according to Medina, Alfonso began hitting him.
After having had enough, Medina writes, “I am not going to stand anymore with the abuse so I did what I did” – shooting Alfonso several times.
Police and investigators responded to the crime, after Medina turned himself in at the South Miami Police Department. During the walkthrough of the home, police found Alfonso’s body but also, her 10-year-old daughter, upstairs – thankfully, physically unharmed.
The local paper reported that Medina has actually authored several ‘self-help e-books,’ one entitled, “How I Saved Someone’s Life & Marriage & Family Problems Thru Communication.” Sounds like he could have a used some of his own advice.
According to a neighbor, Medina was always a bit weird, carrying a concealed weapon and always looking to be the “hero” – like a neighborhood watch guy. Sound familiar? #Zimmerman
Ironically, Medina’s father stated the couple always had a troubled relationship and even remarried last year after having gotten a divorce. Smh. Some relationships just don’t need reviving. In this case, not only is their marriage dead, but so is Jennifer Alfonso.
Not sure if this guy’s going to try and claim self-defense, but that’s the sense I’m getting from his Facebook status. At what point do you walk away for good in an abusive relationship? As a man, was it the ego that couldn’t take it anymore, causing him to murder? Why can’t we all just get along?
I wonder how well Florida’s tourists flow is lookin these days? Hmmm…
