The era of the Hip Hop reality show is upon us. Between “Love & Hip Hop,” The Game getting married, the pseudo-realism of “The Hustle,” T.I. & his basketball team, & TMZ’s new found love affair with rap stars, it’s a no-brainer that your favorite rap guy could conceivably be the star of his or her very own television show in the near future.
Rappers on screen (big or small) is nothing new, going all the way back to classic Hip Hop films like “Disorderlies” (starring The Fat Boys), “Krush Groove,” & even Run DMC’s cult classic, “Tougher Than Leather.” However, in 2013, unscripted realness is what the audience wants. Rap music is so frenetic & unpredictable that it was only a matter of time before the entertainment industry vampires cornered it & stuck their fangs in it’s pulsating jugular vein.
I predict we’ll see a tsunami-like gamut of shows based on the everyday lives of famous-ish rappers & for what it’s worth, I think they should start with the following group of folks, in no particular order.
