Hip Hop Culture for Grown-Ups

Whether people realize it or not, the beef between 50 Cent and Rick Ross is far from over.
There has been a lot of news that I have been overlooking, that may shed a bit of insight on the behind the scenes beef. This latest round of beef started with 50 Cent releasing a sextape starring Rick Ross’ baby’s mother. It was childish, cheap and had nothing to do with music. It got a good laugh, with 50’s alter ego Pimpin’ Curly providing commentary. Well, the court system did not see the humor in it. Lastonia Leviston sued 50 Cent and was awarded $5 million dollars.
Still not taking it seriously, 50 chose to not show up for the court proceedings, basically forcing the judge to award Leviston and additional $2 million in punitive damages. This lead to 50 testifying that his whole lifestyle is fabricated. He basically is claiming that he’s broke. Rented jewelry, struggling with mortgage payments and general household upkeep.
Meanwhile, pictures and video surfaced of his new house in Africa.
Hmmmmmm. Kinda hard to explain filing for bankruptcy when you are in the midst of building a mansion. So, where is the money supposed to come from to pay Ms. Leviston? I’ll tell you. Rick Ross. Do you remember earlier this year when Ross was arrested for assault and kidnapping.
This, courtesy of NBC News:
Rick Ross and his bodyguard were arrested Wednesday morning following an assault earlier this month at the hip-hop mogul’s suburban Atlanta estate, authorities said.
Ross, 39, whose real name is William Roberts, has been charged with kidnapping, aggravated battery and aggravated assault, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Bodyguard Nadrian James, 42, faces kidnapping and aggravated battery charges.
Officials did not release details of the alleged June 7 assault at Ross’ mansion, a 235-acre compound in Fayetteville once owned by former heavyweight boxing champ Evander Holyfield. But in an arrest warrant obtained by The Associated Press, both men are accused of forcing the victim into the guesthouse, down a hallway and into a bedroom, resulting in the kidnapping charges.
Ross then allegedly used a Glock handgun to strike the man in the head and body, and also pointed the weapon at him.
“The victim was then questioned under duress and forced to answer questions at gunpoint,” one of the arrest warrants states.
It’s unclear the relationship between Ross and the man, who suffered two chipped teeth and a neck injury.
“The victim lost use of his jaw and is restricted to soft foods and liquid diet only as a result of not being able to chew food,” an arrest warrant states.
So what does this have to do with 50 Cent?
The person who got assaulted was a groundskeeper named Jonathan Zamudio. Of course he filed a lawsuit. Zamudio claims he loss the use of his jaw and has to eat through a feeding tube. However, he decided to call 911 three hours after the assault and never mentioned being pistol whipped. And then, this picture surfaced, posted to 50 Cent’s instagram page with a caption that reads “Now You Pay.”
The guy 50 is hugging is none other than Jonathan Zamudio. How would a lowly groundskeeper be privileged enough to rub shoulders with 50 Cent if there wasn’t already a connection? So I guess the idea was for Ross to pay up for the assault and kidnapping charge and 50 collect a portion in order to pay off Lastonia Leviston. Sounds far fetched I know, but stranger things have happened. Well, Ross caught wind of this and has instead filed a counter suit against Zamudio and 50 Cent, claiming that this is nothing more than an extortion attempt.
If I can speak honestly, this is a sad day in hip hop when lawsuits and childish antics get in the way of actual music. Never in the history of music have such tactics been used in order to proclaim oneself better than the next man or woman. If the allegations are true, that 50 Cent is building a house while claiming broke, is trying to extort money from a rival in order to pay off his baby’s mother, and is willing to sacrifice the safety and well being of another human to make a point…..he deserves to lose everything he has gained.
I look at 50 like a bitter, rich, hater. He has everything a man could ever ask for. But instead of enjoying his success, he would rather waste time on dragging another man down.
God don’t like ugly.
